Lee Rainie, Director of the Pew Internet Project, discusses the Project's latest
findings at the SoCon11 conference. He goes through trends in social media use
in the last five years of the Project's data. He explores how the turn to pervasive,
participatory, personal, and portable news changes the way news consumers and producers
behave and think about the role of news in their lives. Click here to view his slides

Cell phones and generations [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=8fjbltcab&et=1104539900386&s=12636&e=001iA53W4DvLvcFGZ--3tbDy4QDJ3kvAw31XdS4eS0p3DWI3J6vZ_xAR0YqW6fvrtrutihg-rW29zvPkp4ZdYNfoWymO_aJUZJuCjVbxT9kFTF4p3exwIkfQ3vl51rz3b7b3ElqEGRBAP-fTkS8Lwkd2lvsV5vF60PC9YW0bIycY9p15Au4hke7ZbEsNUrYSyU5]Eighty-five
percent of Americans age 18 and older own a cell phone, and one-third (33%) of
those who do not own a cell phone live in a household with at least one working
mobile phone. This means that overall, overall, 90% of all adults live in a household
with at least one working cell phone. This infographic is based on data from our
recent report Generations and Their Gadgets [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=8fjbltcab&et=1104539900386&s=12636&e=001iA53W4DvLvfNh11p7tqs43GRA-XRYlTfwl4MHd-QvVubhIuEwt5ewtldW2meG3_iHu41xgmqrpGU0krfVpKAQN2PBb6jvrFXRIBjDSg1M2c6JILynuFpSlakpWFq_El6_l7vVPxpfjgP6NMPReQGFO6ezkZWxAuqNFoNS1kef8g=].

These findings are based on a survey of 3,001 American adults (ages 18 and older)
conducted between August 9 and September 13, 2010. The margin of error is +/- 3
percentage points. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish, and the survey
included 1,000 cell phone interviews.
